TOWN OF PEPPERELL                                             MINUTES

RECREATION COMMISSION                                  MARCH 1, 2010

The meeting opened at 7:03pm with members Dave Priddle, Derek Ten Broeck, and Lynne David present.  Leigh Ann Colvin (Program Director and Facilities Mgr) was also in attendance.

The minutes from the February 2, 2010 meeting were accepted.

Jake Watkins and his mother (Pepperell residents) attended to ask to rent the Community Center from 6pm-10pm on April 10th for a 6 band concert to raise money for Relay For Life.  The tickets would be $10.  The commission expressed concerns regarding crowd control.  The commission decided to accept motion if two stipulations were met:

  1. Jake tries to get police to donate their time for the concert and if not, the commission would donate money to pay for them
  2. A $300 refundable deposit with someone over the age of 21 applying.

Dances

Tom Hawkins reduced his DJ fee at Leigh Ann’s request by $25 to equal a total of $375 per dance.

There are 3 more dances this school year.  March 5th, April 9th, and May 7th.

Town Administrator is requesting that every town dept. set  3

goals and objectives to justify its existence to the community.

Some possible goals:  online registration

Setting thermostat in Community Center to 62-65degrees

Community Center

A new vacuum cleaner is needed for the center as the current one does a terrible job.

Leigh Ann requested $139 for a industrial style.

Commission approved the request

Fields

The field opening will be determined by the commissioners with a goal of April 10th.

Jeff Sauer, town webmaster, attended to discuss possibilities of online registration.  He will further investigate what Unibank has to offer for online payments.  Jeff also discussed and gave a demonstration on the Google Calendar for our programs and incorporating that on our website.  The commission voted to have the slot online show up as “busy” for private rentals to protect the public.

Next meeting the commission will discuss a better place to store our files.  The next meeting will be held on April 5th, 2010 at 7pm.

Meeting adjourned at 9:29pm.
