International Folk Dancing

If you can walk, you can dance! Come get some gentle exercise learning dances from around the world! No experience or partner needed. This is not square dancing or line dancing – just dances that folks do for the fun of it in Romania, France, Bulgaria, etc.! The music itself is wonderful, so if you don't want to dance, come and listen and watch us! Adults, Seniors and school age children welcome. No commitment required, and it's FREE! Please wear comfy, non-marking shoes.

ABC Follow ME

ABC Follow Me is a children's playtime and story hour combined with music and movement. Each week a different theme will be introduced and the story and activities will go along with each theme. Families will have the opportunity to engage in fun and physical activities together. They will play, run, jump, throw, catch and socialize in a playgroup environment. My mission is to promote healthy reading and exercise habits right from the start.

Home Alone Safety

notepadChildren will learn telephone and door answering techniques, internet safety, accident and fire protection and first aid techniques. We'll also talk about how to manage your time when you're home alone for short periods of time. The class includes a variety of teaching methods, including a video and role playing.

Babysitting Lessons and Safety Training

babysittingAn American Academy of Pediatrics course that covers how to handle the basics of infant and childcare, how to react responsibly to medical emergencies and injuries, perform first aid for common childhood injuries and illnesses, including choking prevention. We'll talk about how to set up and run your own babysitting business.

- Horseback Riding -
 

Beginner Horsemanship for Ages 7-14

Participants will learn all aspects of horsemanship – grooming, tacking up and riding. They will have one on one instruction each time on riding the horse – basic controls to be used as well as the safe and correct way to work around horses. Class size is limited to 4-6 students so register early so not to miss out. Those re-enrolling in class will build on the skills already learned.

**Equipment Needed: boot or shoe with a heel, long pants, riding helmet (some are available at farm).

  • Yoga Core

    Using yoga moves and a core ball this one hour class works the whole body especially the core. This class is great for anyone wanting to increase all around strength and improve balance for such activities like cycling and everyday functional activities. Please bring a yoga mat.

  • Cardio Kick-N-Tone

    This 90 minute class includes 45 minutes of kickboxing, burning calories and increasing cardio endurance. The next 45 minutes consists of total body toning using weights, tubes and a core ball to tone muscle and increase resting metabolism. Please bring an exercise mat and 3 to 5lbs weights.

  • Barre / Pilates

    This class combines work at the barre with Pilates mat work. It will focus on the glutes and hamstrings as well as strengthening the core to sculpt a long lean body and a tight tush.

  • Insanity ***NEW***

    Insanity is a new take on high intensity interval training. Participants will work to capacity in 2-3 minute increments, with 30 second recovery. This intense workout is designed to push participants to their limit and beyond, however all exercises are easily modifiable to accommodate different fitness levels. You will work within your own limits and capacity, with the ability to increase your intensity as you feel able.

    **Minimum 3 registered to run class.**

Intro to Reiki (Ray-Key)

This class will be an overview of what Reiki is and the benefits it gives us. Here is how the intro will be broken down:

Reiki Share

Reiki is a technique that offers a sense of well-being for the body, mind and spirit. It is a hands on technique in connection to universal life force energy. It can help with insomnia, stress, nausea and relaxation. It is suggested that you dress comfortably. Max class 10-20 adults.

What to expect?

We open/close the Reiki Share forming a circle, to share intentions silently or verbally. Massage tables and/or chairs are used during the Reiki sessions. Be sure to be well hydrated before and after.

Intro to An Angel Circle

- AdventuRides Bicycle Rides
 

Our motto: A bad day outdoors beats a good day indoors!

AdventuRides Spring 2014

Join us as we explore 3 different routes each week over scenic country roads and enough civilized off-road routes to keep things interesting. We are mere mortals who believe "fitness is fun". We'll get great exercise and discover new places together. Starting locations vary each week, but will always be within 1/2 hour drive of Groton, Massachusetts. You will receive ride information each week by email and our website. Please make sure to register your email address. The first ride is free- come check us out

Equipment needed: You should be able to handle our rides on almost any well-maintained bike. An ANSI approved bicycle helmet and sign our waiver form before participating.

Ride Leaders: Bill Brandt is an escapee from the world of high tech. He owns several non-traditional bikes, including one that fits in the tiny trunk of his sports car. He is a master at finding beautiful and interesting bike routes. Carole Greenfield, also a high tech escapee, has been riding with friends and groups for over 20 years. She is a master at finding good places to eat and bathrooms. She ensures we have the same number of riders at the beginning and end of each ride. See AdventuRides.com for more information.

Recreational rides: We will cycle approximately 12-18 miles at a leisurely pace adjusted to the desires and abilities of the group. You should have the ability to ride 1 1/2 to 2 hours, with regular breaks. The Recreational Rides combine on road and some civilized off-road. A sturdy road bike or hybrid bike is recommended. Each ride will be different. Therefore, we encourage you to do Recreational Rides and Fitness Rides as long as you are comfortable with the distances/paces of each class.

Time: 9:30-11:30am

Dates: 3/31,4/7,4/14, 4/28, 5/5, 5/12, 5/19, 6/2, 6/9, 6/16 (Mon 3/31-6/16, excluding 4/21 and 5/26)

- Spring Programs from Pepperell Recreation -

Easter Bunny Breakfast and Egg Hunt 2014

Come gather at the Pepperell Community Center for our 2nd annual breakfast cooked by our very own Pepperell Lions Club. On the menu is sausage and pancakes. The Easter Bunny will be available for pictures during the breakfast as well as some vendors. Volunteers from the Summer Playground will be face painting and organizing a few activities. The morning will continue out on the Town Field Rain or Shine for the annual egg hunt. We will have around 4,000 eggs spread out on 3 fields for those 3 & under, 4-6 years old and those 12 & under. Inside the eggs you will find one of the following: toy prize, donated Doc Davis Ice Cream certificate or special tag identifying you as a basket winner. The Egg Hunt BEGINS promptly at noon. Be sure to bring the FAMILY, a BAG or BASKET, and CAMERA to this annual tradition.

Hunt Cost: Free admission to the egg hunt but donations welcomed to keep the tradition; charges will apply with food and vendors

Summer Playground

Pepperell Recreation's SUMMER PLAYGROUND will return for another fun-filled summer in 2014!!!!!!

This drop off program for children features lots of fun-filled activities geared toward specific age groups in a safe and supervised environment. This program is for children 5 or older as of August 31, 2013.

Kids tennis with Greg Reardon Ages 7-15

Join Greg Reardon, nationally ranked Florida Pro in his 9th year in Pepperell and learn the great sport of a lifetime. Creative Dance and Art Workshop (Ages 4-9)

The morning begins with a creative dance class where children can express themselves through movement. Children will explore moving in different ways dancing to a variety of music and dance styles while developing dance skills and learning ballet and modern dance vocabulary. Dance class will be followed by an art project integrating art and movement concepts. Each day will encompass a different theme. After enjoying a healthy snack together, we will do a special project which may include drama and theatre games, dance history, yoga games, sing-along, story time, music for dancers, and costume designing.

Pepperell Ski Program

Come join us for skiing and snowboarding at Wachusett Mountain Ski Area. We offer this program for students grades 5-12 with limited space available for 5th grade students and a max of about 170 students. Busses depart from NMS and NMRHS at 2:30pm (arrive at Wachusett around 3:30pm) and return to NMS between 8:45pm and 9:00pm (leaving Wachusett at 8pm).

UniPay is a secure tax payment service of UniBank working with the Town of Pepperell that allows you to register and pay for Pepperell Recreation programs and classes. When you follow the link to register, a new browser window will open to a UniPay page specifically for Pepperell Recreation programs and classes. Go to the pull-down menus on the left side to find your program or class.

You will need:

  • A form of payment: either your checking account number and bank's ABA Routing number or a MasterCard or Discover credit card (including the 3-digit security code from the back of the card). Visa is currently NOT accepted for Recreation transactions.
  • an email address so a confirmation can be sent to you at the completion of your payment.

Fees Charged:

  • You will be charged a fee for using UniBank's service. The fee for paying from a checking account will be $0.25. The fee if you pay by credit or debit card (MasterCard and Discover accepted) depends on the transaction amount as follows:

Where are programs held?
All programs are held at the Pepperell Community Center, located at 4 Hollis Street at the rotary, unless otherwise noted.

How do I register?
Online - click the registration now link above
By mail - Please mail your check (payable to Town of Pepperell) and form to: Pepperell Recreation Programs One Main Street, c/o Town Hall Pepperell, MA 01463

How do I know if I'm registered?
You are enrolled in the program upon receipt of your registration form and payment. You will only be notified if the class is full or cancelled. All programs are based on a first-come, first-served basis. Please register at least one week prior to the program date, as most classes need to meet a minimum number of participants and without this the class will be cancelled.

Inclement Weather Policy

  • If Pepperell schools are cancelled then all daytime programs are cancelled at the center.
  • For evening programs or a delayed school opening then it is recommended that you CONTACT the INSTRUCTOR/LEADER to determine the program/meeting status.
