Military Sign Dedication Ceremony - December 19 at 1:00pm

Army Community Covenant

On Sunday, December 19th at 1:00 p.m. at the Pepperell Town Park at theTown Rotary, there will be held a Military Sign Dedication Ceremony to honor and pay tribute to all of Pepperell's deployed and active duty soldiers. The sign is constructed in the shape of a military badge with as many as 50 names of servicemen and women printed on the front and covenant sponser's and supporters on the back. The sign was manufactured by Sites and Signs and donated by Masy Systems Inc. both from Pepperell. The sign will be flanked on each side by two granite benches donated by the Pepperell Lions Club and The Groton-Pepperell Rotary. Fort Devens Army Garrison Commander Lt. Col. Warren Bacote, as well as State and Local officials, will be in attendance. Please join us in supporting our troops.

Knights of Columbus

On Friday, December 17th, from 7:00-11:00pm, the Knights Of Columbus Christmas Party with Modern Entertainment.

A Childrens Christmas Party will be held Saturday, December 18th at the Knights of Columbus Hall from 2-4pm. There will be lots of fun activities and snacks for all the children. Santa will be there to give the children presents!

And on Sunday, December 19, from 9am-12pm, the Knights Of Columbus will host a Breakfast with Santa.

North Middlesex High School Holiday Concert - December 16

Come and listen to the festive sounds of our high school students on December 16th at 7pm at North Middlesex RHS . The NM Concert Bands and NM Choirs will perform holiday music for all to enjoy. St. David's Christmas Fair - December 11

The church will have a Christmas Fair on Saturday, December 11, from 9am to 2pm. There will be crafts, food, a quilt raffle,(tickets available at the fair), a children's shopping table, gifts and more. Lunch will also be available.

Merry Rockmas Bash to benefit PACH - December 11

Reserve Saturday, December 11 for an excellent night out at the Merry Rockmas Bash with bands Eastwood Peak, Mumblefish, and introducing The Instructorz. In addition to getting a full dose of music entertainment, your support will also benefit PACH Outreach. The concert, beginning at 7:00 pm at The Alpine Grove in Hollis, NH, is sponsored by the Pepperell Business Association.

Community Church's Annual Christmas Fair - December 4

The Community Church of Pepperell is hosting its annual Christmas Fair from 9am until 2pm on Saturday, December 4th. There will be something to interest everyone and lots of bargains to be had. Attractions include a gift basket raffle – with a wide selection of themed baskets. Browse the used book corner and pre-owned jewelry table. There will also be a Silent Auction.

The Artisan's Corner offers one-of-a-kind items all hand made by our own Community Church Crafters. This group works tirelessly all year to bring you custom designed clothing items (including scarves, hats and mittens), unique ornaments and home decorations. The homemade jams and pickles are always in high demand and sell out quickly. The Artisan's Corner is a great place to find unique gifts for holiday giving.

There will be baked goods to buy and the traditional ham luncheon in the Vestry, complete with dessert.

There will be plenty of children's activities at the Christmas Fair. Younger guests are invited to decorate a gingerbread house, have their faces painted and seek out bargains at the "Children's Only Gift Shop", where all guests under the age of 12 may purchase gifts for their family members at kid-friendly prices. Santa will be joining us from 11:30 until 1:00; be sure to stop by and say hello and have your picture taken with him.

Pepperell's Holiday Tree Lighting at Lawrence Library - Friday, December 3, 6:45pm

The holidays are almost upon us and it will some be time for Santa to use his magic to light Pepperell's town tree before greeting the children of Pepperell in Santa Village inside Lawrence Library.

Candidates-for-Selectmen Debate at the Senior Center - November 30 at 7:00pm

Council on Aging

The Council on Aging will host a Candidates-For-Selectmen Debate at the Pepperell Senior Center on November 30, 2010 at 7:00pm. This event will offer a chance to meet and hear from the two candidates - Michael Green and Lyndon Johnson - running for the vacant Board of Selectmen seat in the upcoming Special Town Election, scheduled for December 6, 2010.


Holiday Designs from Nature - November 10

The Pepperell Police Department will have extra neighborhood patrols out between 6:00-8:00pm on the evening of Halloween, Sunday, October 31, 2010 to help ensure a enjoyable and safe time for the town's younger residents.


NMRHS marching band, wind symphony and repertory band - Wednesday, October 27

NMRHS Band Boosters

The NMRHS marching band, wind symphony and repertory band will be performing Wednesday, October 27th at 7pm at the North Middlesex Regional High School. The performance is open to the public and all are welcome to listen to the sounds of these amazing award-winning bands. Concert typically runs about 1 1/2 hours. Admission is $5. and all proceeds go to the band program.


Fall Special Town Meeting - Monday, October 25

The Pepperell Board of Selectmen have set the date for the Fall Special Town Meeting for October 25. Special Town Meeting will be held at the Nissitissit Middle School Auditorium beginning at 7:30pm.

Review the warrant for Special Town Meeting. Finance Committee recommendations will be posted prior to Special Town Meeting.


Fall Festival and Carnival - October 21-24 on the Town Field

The 4th of July Committee will host a Fall Festival and Carnival on the Town Field, beginning Thursday, October 21 and running through Sunday October 24. The carnival hours will be Thursday Oct 21st 6 - 10, Friday Oct 22nd 6 - 10, Sat Oct 23 1 - 10pm, Sunday Oct 24th 1 - 5pm. Watch for more details.

Annual Jeff Smith Trail Hike - October 23

Nashoba Conservation Trust & Nissitissit River Land Trust

The Nashoba Conservation Trust & Nissitissit River Land Trust will lead the Annual hike of the Jeff Smith Trail on Saturday, October 23. The hike will begin at 9:00am on Jewett Street in Pepperell at the trailhead (near house #125) and continue to Wildlife Pond on the Beaver Brook Association land on Rte. 13 in Hollis, NH. The total distance of the hike will be approximately 7 miles and hikers are encouraged to bring lunch for a picnic along the Nissitissit River during the hike.

Hikers are encouraged to arrive at the Wildlife Pond parking lot at Rte 13 in Hollis and coordinated carpools to the Jewett St trailhead, particularly since there is very limited parking available on Jewett St.

Trail maps of the Jeff Smith Trail are available for review and print-out.

Recycle your Reusables - October 23 from 9:00am - 1:00pm

Ayer Recycling Committee & MassToss

The Ayer Recycling Committee, with the assistance from and co-sponsorship of MassToss and the recycling committees of Groton, Shirley, and Townsend and the towns of Littleton and Lunenburg, will hold a major recycling collection event at the Ayer High School Parking Lot on Saturday, October 23 from 9:00am - 1:00 pm. All are welcome to donate the following items:

  • The Lowell Wish Project: gently used household goods including clothes, furniture, mattresses/box springs, radios & TVs, appliances, computers, linens, Game Boys & baby gear.
  • Bikes Not Bombs: used bikes, helmets and accessories for disadvantaged Boston youth & people in developing countries. A $10 donation is requested with each donated bike.
  • Loaves and Fishes: non-perishable foods, personal care items, holiday wrapping paper & small gifts for people of all ages.
  • ReFoamIt: Styrofoam food trays/containers (#6 only, rinsed clean), coolers, drink cups, packing peanuts & more.
  • Nike Reuse-A-Shoe: all brands of athletic shoes to reprocess into athletic playing surfaces.
  • ProShred: shred personal and confidential print documents and e-media & you can watch while it happens.
  • Gently Used Sporting Goods Sale: Donate your old winter sporting gear and pick up the equipment you need now at bargain prices. The sale benefits People of Ayer Concerned About the Environment (PACE) & the Ayer public schools. Skates, Skis, Snowboards, Snowshoes, Accessories , Hockey sticks and gear, Winter coats and boots, and any brand of used athletic shoes.

3rd Annual Octoberfest Beer and Wine Tasting - Saturday, October 16

The Friends of Lawrence Library will host its 3rd Octoberfest Beer and Wine Tasting event from 6:00-9:00pm on Saturday, October 16 at the Lawrence Library in Pepperell. Sample a variety of wines and beers while snacking on light refreshments and listening to live music. Bring home a complimentary wine glass all whilst supporting of the library.

The polls in Pepperell will be at the Varnum Brook Middle School gymnasium, 10 Hollis Street, and will be open from 7:00am - 8:00pm.

If you will be unable to vote at the polls during those times, Absentee Ballots are now available at the Office of the Town Clerk.

Electronic and Appliance Recycle Day at Our Lady of Grace - September 11

Our Lady of Grace Church will hold an electronics and appliance recycle day fundraiser on Saturday, September 11, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the parking lot of Our Lady of Grace Church Pepperell, 28 Tarbell Steet, Pepperell, MA.

The event will accept all electronics, including monitors, computers, fax machines and copy machines, stereo equipment, turn tables etc., as well as all appliances, including refrigerators, washers, dryers, stoves, water tanks, ac units, microwaves, dehumidifiers. We will also be accepting lawn mowers and snow blowers with gas removed, exercise equipment, grills (without tank). This is a fundraiser for the church with low fees of $5 per electronic item, $10 each small TV or appliance, $15 each 20" or larger TV. Any cell phones, car batteries, bikes, power tools are free.

Season Opening Plant Swap - September 8 at 7:00pm

The Pepperell Garden Club will open the new 2010-2011 season with a Plant Swap at its September meeting.

The public is welcome to attend this workshop at the Pepperell Garden Club meeting on Wednesday, September 8th at 7:00 PM at the Pepperell Senior Center located on Route 111, 37 Nashua Road. The guest fee is $5.

Grand Opening Ceremony of the Covered Bridge - Saturday, September 4

Excitement continues to mount as the public awaits the completion of Pepperell's third covered bridge. On Saturday, September 4th, 2010 a Grand Opening Ceremony is planned with a big celebration honoring our new bridge. The rain date is Sunday, September 5th. A ceremonious morning of events will be followed by an afternoon of fun and entertainment that will end with a block party on the Town Field. Historic events are planned with contests, games from the 18th century, a patriotic craft workshop for kids, a marketplace of vendors, pony rides, food and more events will be announced soon.

Businesses, groups and residents in town are also working together to create a scenic, historic area called the Prudence Wright Overlook to be developed alongside the new covered bridge, on land owned by the Department of Fisheries & Wildlife. The Overlook will include historical monuments and education, bridge artifacts, natural plants and landscaping and a commemorative brick walkway called the Pepperell Memory Walk

The Pepperell Memory Walk will contain engraved bricks that can be purchased by the public and personalized with a name or message and placed permanently into the walkway at the bridge. Proceeds from the fund raiser will benefit the covered bridge site and provide funds to help maintain the area in the future. The Covered Bridge Committee will launch a new web site, www.pepperellcoveredbridge.org, on the internet later this month to provide information about the Grand Opening Ceremony, the Prudence Wright Overlook and the Memory Walk.

Volunteers are encouraged to join the town appointed Covered Bridge Committee to help plan and oversee events for this special occasion. This is a rare opportunity in our history and the public has some grand ideas on how they would like to celebrate together. We need volunteers to help us create a celebration event that the entire community will remember.


State Representative Candidates Night at the VFW - Tuesday, August 24

Vacation Bible School - July 26-30

Pepperell Christian Fellowship

Pepperell Christian Fellowship is hosting a Vacation Bible School, Monday, July 26-July 30, 2010 from 9:00 AM - 12 noon. The Theme is Fire Fighters by TruthQuest. The VBS is FREE and open to all children of the area ages Four years old by July 1st. through fifth grade just completed. The Church is located at 17 Main Street, Pepperell, MA next door to the Pepperell Lawrence Library. A Mom's class will also be going on and open to all ladies, it is the same time and place and a nursery is staffed for you. There is a snack provided and there is no fee for admittance; however, we ask that children (four years of age through fifth grade) please bring in a plain white t-shirt for a craft day during the week. Registration will be done at the door on Monday July 26th.

Student Art Contest for Covered Bridge - entry deadline July 23

The Covered Bridge Committee announces an Art Contest open to all Pepperell students grades K through 8th. Drawings or paintings must be of Pepperell's Covered Bridge past or present and be an original work of art. One winner will be chosen from each grade level and a Grand Prize winner will win $100.

Volunteers Needed to Scout and Pull Water Chestnuts from the Nashua River - July 17

Nashua River Watershed Association

On Saturday, July 17th from 11:30 AM to 4 PM, volunteers are invited to help scout and pull water chestnuts, an invasive exotic weed, from the Pepperell Pond section of the Nashua River. Gathering baskets and maps will be provided (although if you have an old laundry basket to donate, please do!). Partners in the project are the Nashua River Watershed Association, Nashoba Paddler, Ducks Unlimited, and the Groton Greenway Committee. Volunteers should wear old clothes, bring (rubber dishwashing) gloves, sunscreen, bug spray, water to drink, and a bagged lunch. Volunteers may bring their own canoes and equipment, but will be asked to sign an insurance waiver. A limited number of canoes will be provided by Nashoba Paddler on a "first call, first served" basis. Advanced registration is required; all participants must register by calling the Nashua River Watershed Association at (978) 448-0299. 2010 Summer Bandstand Concert Series - Tuesdays, July 6 - August 10

The Pepperell Business Association will again present a Summer Bandstand Concert Series on the Town Field every Tuesday evening at 6:30pm from July 6 - August 10, 2010. The performers for 2010 are as follows:

Pepperell's Annual Crank-Up - Sunday, July 11

Wake up with the early-birds and come to the annual Crank-up! This year's Crank-Up will take place on Sunday, July 11 at the Town Field from 7:00am - 3:00pm. Admission is free.

This event features over 200 exhibitors, including 50-75 tractors, and over 100 gasoline engines.


Pepperell's Independence Day parade and celebration - Saturday, July 3

Pepperell will celebrated Independence Day on the first Saturday in July, this year July 3, with its annual best-in-the-region parade beginning at 12:30pm from Town Hall on Main St. Unfortunately, the most recent information is that the new Covered Bridge will *not* be finished in time to allow the parade to return to the traditional Main St. route through Railroad Square. Therefore, this year's parade will again turn at the rotary and head up Hollis St. to Tucker Ave.

The parade will be followed by a Hometown Independence Day celebration on the Town Field featuring a variety of vendors, both food service and merchandise. Fireworks are planned for the evening, pending fundraising efforts by the 4th of July Committee.

HOOPLA D.A.R.E.s you to shoot 80% Free Throws - Register June 21-25

Hoopla Basketball & Pepperell Police Dept's D.A.R.E. Program

HOOPLA Basketball in partnership with the Pepperell Police Department's D.A.R.E. program will hold a 4-session Free Throw Shooting Clinic on July 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th at the Sean Wellington Basketball Courts in Pepperell, RAIN or SHINE. The clinic will teach all participants how to shoot free throws at an 80% success rate based on fundamental skills and the application of scientific data.

All players are welcome from 8 to 18. A donation to the D.A.R.E program is the entry fee. The suggested donation is $25 but all donations are welcome. Special guests will participate weekly. All players who demonstrate an 80% free throw success rate on Week 4 will receive a certification.

D.A.R.E. is a police officer-led series of classroom lessons that teaches children from kindergarten through 12th grade how to resist peer pressure and live productive drug and violence-free lives. HOOPLA Basketball is returning after a 7 year hiatus for this one clinic. HOOPLA Basketball teaches fundamental basketball skills to players of all ages. New playground installation: Construction Volunteers Needed - June 19-20

The Friends of Pepperell Recreation are very excited to receive delivery of long sought after pieces to a new playground for the Town Field. They were ordered weeks ago and are due in town very soon. The goal is to have these installed and ready before the summer months - to be enjoyed by summer playground participants and everyone else. A date has been set for the playground installation and the Friends of Pepperell hope that you may be able to set aside some time to help them install the new equipment on Saturday, June 19 and Sunday, June 20, even if only for a few hours. Any and all time you can spare would be put to good use, particularly from those with construction knowledge.

There are 8 pieces to install - two slides, a bank of 8 swings, a carousel spinner, zipline, rock n rider, a gravitron, and a tire swing. Teams of 5-8 will be set up to work on each piece to facilitate installation. Please recruit a few friends and work on this together! The Friends will be assembling whatever possible ahead of time during the week prior/during the day. The rest will be done onsite on Saturday and Sunday - June 19 & 20.

Pepperell's Memorial Day parade and observance will be held on Monday, May 31, 2010. Opening ceremonies at the St. Joseph's cemetery begin at 8:00am. The parade begins from the VFW at 9:00am and proceeds to Railroad Sq. and up Main Street to Town Hall and the Community Church.

American Redware Pottery Performance - May 17

The Mass Cultural Council as administered by the The Pepperell Cultural Council presents a unique pottery performance hosted by Pepperell Historical Society at the Pepperell Community Center on May 17 from 6:30 - 8:00pm.

Mr. Rick Hamelin, of Warren, MA has been recognized by the Mass Cultural Council as a Keeper of Tradition and by Early American Life Magazine as one of America's Best Redware potters for over the last 19 years. This performance, seen in over 250 venues across Massachusetts, would be of interest to those interested in Massachusetts pottery history and pottery techniques. Stories about old Massachusetts potters will be told and many items, including teapots and dragons, will be are made on the wheel.

Breakfast with the Birds - May 16

On Sunday, May 16th at 6:30 a.m. Pepperell Conservation Commissioner Rob Rand will host "Breakfast with the Birds" at the Keyes Conservation Area on Oak Hill Street in Pepperell. The event is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to bring a blanket or lawn chair and binoculars and to come to enjoy coffee and bagels on a grassy knoll overlooking a stream and pond. This has been a great birding spot in past springs. All ages welcome, children must be supervised.

The Keyes Conservation Area is located between Park and Boynton Streets on Oak Hill Street; look for the sign at the end of the unpaved driveway on the north side of the street. The parking lot is at the end of the driveway. For questions, call the Conservation Commission office.

The Pepperell Garden Club will hold its Annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 15 on the front steps of Lawrence Library:

The Pepperell Garden Club Plant Sale is one of the LARGESTS plant sales in the area! Club members can help you to beautify your yard with annuals, perennials, ground covers, shrubs and trees. Locally grown vegetable plants and herbs will also be offered for sale.

Mature, hardy plants dug from members' gardens are the highlight. All of the plants are reasonably priced. Some club members, who are also landscape professionals, lend their expertise to advise you on plant choices and design concepts to help you to create your garden oasis.

This Plant Sale is the largest fund raising event for the garden club. Funds from the sale are used for numerous projects throughout Pepperell such as town beautification with planters on Main Street, plantings at town hall, Lawrence Library, the rotary, the rail trail, holiday greens and wreaths on public buildings, donations of trees throughout town and scholarships for local students.

14th Annual Pepperell Green-Up - April 17-25

The 14th annual clean up of roadside litter and trash on public lands in Pepperell begins Saturday, April 17 and continues through Sunday, April 25. A map of Pepperell and a sign-up list will be posted in the Lawrence Library by April 1st. Stop by to sign up and pick up some orange garbage bags. Public lands to pick up include roadsides, sidewalks, parking lots, schools, the rail trail, conservation lands, hiking trails and other areas.

Anyone can participate – individuals, families, scout groups, organizations, businesses, etc, and everyone’s efforts make a difference! Filled bags can be left curbside. The Pepperell Highway Division will pick up the bags along the roadside beginning Monday April 26.

This is a commuity initiative. Thank you for participating and for Taking Pride in Pepperell.

4th Annual Used Bike Sale & 3rd Annual Town-Wide Yard Sale - April 17

The Friends of Pepperell invite everyone to shop ‘till they drop Saturday April 17. The group will hold its 4th Annual (gently) Used Bike Sale on the basketball court at the Community Center from 9am-1pm.

And, shop the Town Field, 7am-1pm and neighboring streets for even more great deals during the 3rd Annual Town Wide Yard Sale throughout the day.

Bike donations will be accepted now through the start of the sale and tax donation receipts are available. Bikes of all sizes, scooters, accessories, trailers, and racks can be dropped-off at 152 Heald Street or can arrange pick up by calling 978-835-0133.

Historically, we start the day with over 150 bikes- trikes, toddler bikes, with training wheels… and without, as well as adult sizes. Bike types include mountain, road, BMX, all name brands to choose from--Trek, Specialized, Mongoose, Schwinn and many more.

Sale starts at 9a.m., be there on the dot for the best selection. All unsold bicycles will be donated to the Worcester Earn A Bike program.

Got stuff? Have a yard sale at your house or bring it to the Town Field and set up there. Last year we had over 100 yard sales all over town. Join your friends and neighbors in this community event while cleaning out and earning a little extra cash. All Yard Sale registrants will receive a brightly colored and numbered sign to display at their address for easy recognition for the many yard salers out shopping on Saturday! This year’s TWYS publicity will include newspaper ads, signs about town, and yard stakes. Other ideas welcomed!

Want stuff? It’s super simple to get around as part of our fundraising efforts is the sale of a map at the community center on TWYS day, plan your route and go. All participants will be listed with location details.

You will also learn how to create more beauty in your gardens by making plant combinations that seem to extend the blooming season. Plus, Adriana will suggest alternative perennials, shrubs and trees to substitute for plants that have been identified as invasive in our area.

Farm Day 2010 - April 10 at 11:00am

Twin Valley Farm and the Nashoba Conservation Trust

Jon and Anne Kaiser of Twin Valley Farm invite young and old, to visit their farm on Brookline Street on Saturday, April 10 from 11 am to 2 pm. This annual event has taken place since 2001 when the Kaiser family, working with the Town of Pepperell and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, placed an Agricultural Preservation Restriction (APR) on their property. The APR Program permanently protects the land and ensures Twin Valley Farm will remain a part of Pepperell’s legacy. (Learn more about the APR program).

Many have commented that the barn tour brings back childhood memories. Children enjoy patting and feeding the horses and cows. Carrots are provided to feed the horses and cows and light refreshments are served.

7th Annual Community Talent Show - April 9 at 6:30pm

Come show your support and spend an all-ages friendly evening watching family, friends and neighbors perform in the Pepperell Woman's Club 7th Annual Community Talent Show. Everyone is invited to an evening full of music, singing, dancing and comedy - with 20 performers in all - ranging from school age to adult. The show will be on Friday, April 9th in the auditorium at Nissitissit Middle School located at 33 Chace Avenue in Pepperell. The show begins at 6:30 PM with FREE admission for everyone!

A performance by our special musical guest, country singer Tracilynne will start off the evening. During intermission, come spend a few minutes browsing through the Chinese Auction containing items donated by local residents and businesses while enjoying baked goods and refreshments. Pepperell Horse Owners Association Annual Elections - March 10

The Pepperell Horse Owner's Association (PHOA) is holding its annual elections at the upcoming March meeting, to be held at the Pepperell Community Center at 7:00pm on March 10. 2010. . Anyone with a horse, or interested in horses is welcome to attend and join.

The Pepperell Horse Owners Association was formed in 2003 in response to the town's proposal to regulate horse-keeping. Pepperell has always been home to several large professional barns and many happy backyard horses widespread concern over the proposal quickly brought conscious horse owners and riders together.Today, the organization has proved sustainability and continues to grow in support of common interest. PHOA fulfills its mission statement, "Working to preserve and encourage equine activities in the Town of Pepperell," by hosting a variety of activities for both horse owners and non horse owners in town.

Flower Arranging: Pepperell Garden Club Workshop - March 10

The Pepperell Garden Club is hosting a flower arranging workshop presented by Joyce Bellefeuille of Dunstable, Massachusetts. Doesn’t it make you feel good to see a beautiful flower arrangement or smell the sweet scent of flowers? Studies show that flowers create feelings of happiness and have a long-term effect on your mood. Joyce will design beautiful flower arrangements using both fresh and permanent floral materials.

Joyce Bellefeuille is the owner and principal designer at Belle Feuille (pronounced Bel-Fay) Floral Design in Dunstable. She has over 25 years of experience and is a graduate of Ritter’s School of Floral Design in Boston.

The public is welcome to attend this workshop at the Pepperell Garden Club meeting on Wednesday, March 10 at 7:00pm at the Pepperell Senior Center located on Route 111, 37 Nashua Road.
The guest fee is $5.

Kindergarten Registration for 2010-2011 - Tues., March 2 & Wed., March 3

Kindergarten registration for the 2010-11 school year will take place at Varnum Brook Elementary School, 10 Hollis Street, on Tuesday, March 2 (last names A-L)and Wednesday, March 3 (last names M-Z). You may register your child between 9:30 and 11AM or between 1 and 2:30PM. Registration will also be available from 7:30 to 8:30AM on Wednesday, March 3 for those who cannot come later in the day.

Please pick up a registration packet in advance and bring all completed paperwork and documentation to registration with you. Packets may be picked up from the school office between 8AM and 4PM on school days.

Scouting 100th Anniversary Mass at St. Josephs - Sunday, February 28 at 10:30am

Pepperell Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts

The first week of February is often referred to as Scouting Anniversary Week and the first Sunday in February is called Scout Sunday. Scout Sunday is celebrated by thousands of scouts each year at Churches and Synagogues across the United States.

In Pepperell, a celebration is scheduled for February 28th at Saint Joseph Church in Pepperell. It is a great honor to be recognized in this way and a great opportunity to show off our colors. All Scouts and families are requested to attend regardless of their religious affiliation.

The Mass starts at 10:30. The Scouts have been asked to gather in the basement of the church at 10:00 so we can get organized and all march in together. Please dress appropriately for a formal Scouting event. And bring your Flags.

We're hoping to make this a really big event for scouting, especially since we are also celebrating the 100th Anniversary to the founding of the Boy Scouts in the US. Hope to see you there.

"The Victorian Art of Pressing Flowers" - Wednesday, February 10

The Pepperell Garden Club is hosting the Victorian Art of Pressing Flowers Workshop presented by Pauline Bergassi of Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. Pauline will lead participants in creating a note card made of pressed flowers and ferns. Note cards and supplies will be provided. Participants are asked to bring their own pressed flowers, or pressed flowers and ferns will be available to purchase.

"The natural beauty that surrounds me in my garden has always been a source of inspiration," says Pauline. Her botanical art recreates each flower’s place in her garden and can be enjoyed in any season for many years to come.

Pauline Bergassi is dedicated to perfecting her “pressing skills” after retiring from over 20 years of teaching. She has exhibited in events such as the Tower Hill Shades of Autumn Event as well as many more. Pauline is a member of the Worcester Horticultural Society, New England Wild Flower Society, and many art associations.

Although children are welcome to attend the Information Night, the program is geared toward parents; children do not need to be present.

The Nashoba Associated Boards of Health will be conducting additional H1N1 and Seasonal Flu Clinics from 3:30-6:30pm on January 6 at the Nissitissit Middle School and from 10:00am-12:00 noon on January 20 at the Pepperell Senior Center. These clinics will be open to everyone and no longer just high risk persons.

Additional area clinics will be held in Berlin (12/17), St. Anthony of Padula in Shirley (12/28), and Ashburnham (12/30).

The Pepperell Garden Club invites the public to their January meeting, Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at 7:00 PM at the Pepperell Senior Center. Come meet the club members who will be sharing favorite gardening books, and discussing gardening ideas and inspirations. Members are bringing quick breads for refreshments.

If you love flowers and working in your yard, please consider joining the Pepperell Garden Club or attending one of the monthly meetings. The Pepperell Garden Club is open to residents from all towns.

The Pepperell Garden Club is an active organization. Many of the members maintain the flowers at the rotary and at Town Hall, and they work on Main Street beautification with beautiful flower planters and gardens by the clock at the rail trail. Best of all, the Pepperell Garden Club hosts an annual plant sale in May.
